Girl rescued from rubble 248 hours after earthquake in Turkey

A seventeen-year-old girl was rescued on Thursday from the rubble of a building that collapsed in the south-central province of Kahramanmaras, 248 hours after a powerful earthquake struck the area this week, killing more than 40,000 people in Turkey and Syria.

State television TRT Haber reported on the rescue on Thursday.

The death toll in earthquakes that ravaged parts of southern Turkey and northern Syria continues to rise. As the chances of finding the survivors get thinner, some foreign search teams are starting to leave.

The death toll is certain to increase as search teams searching the ruins find more bodies.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said nearly 8,000 rescuers and humanitarian workers from 74 countries are still assisting Turkish teams in their efforts. About 4,200 people from 15 countries have left, he said.

"I would like to thank each and every one of them," Cavusoglu said during a joint press conference with his Costa Rican colleague who was visiting.
